Say It Once. MIRA Does the Rest — How AI Voice Assistants Are Redefining Accessibility

    Introduction

Imagine waking up every morning in a world that was never designed for you. Text you cannot read. Faces you cannot recognise. Currency notes that all feel the same between your fingers. For over 15 million visually impaired individuals in India alone, this is not a hypothetical. It is daily life.

SMARTON, built by Sunbots Innovations, is an AI-powered accessibility platform specifically designed to change this reality. At the heart of SMARTON is MIRA — a multilingual, voice-first AI assistant that transforms the way visually impaired users experience and navigate the world.

    What Makes MIRA Different

MIRA is not a standard voice assistant. It is a context-aware, multimodal routing system that listens to what a user needs and intelligently directs the request to the right AI capability — whether that is object detection, currency recognition, document reading, or scene understanding.

A user might say: "What is in front of me?" MIRA activates Smart Eye, the computer vision module, and describes the scene in plain, natural language. They might say: "Read me this document." MIRA routes to Document AI, which extracts and reads text aloud in the user's preferred language. The experience is seamless. The user just speaks, and MIRA handles everything else.

    The Core Capabilities of SMARTON

    • Smart Eye — Real-time object and scene recognition powered by computer vision
    • Currency Detection — Identifies Indian and international currency notes instantly
    • Document AI — OCR-powered text extraction and reading across multiple languages
    • STEM Access — Helps visually impaired students understand diagrams and equations
    • Diagram Description — AI-generated verbal descriptions of charts, graphs, and visual content
    • MIRA Voice Assistant — The intelligent router connecting all the above seamlessly

Built for India, Designed for the World

One of SMARTON's most important design decisions is its deep commitment to multilingual support. India has 22 official languages and hundreds of dialects. An accessibility tool that only works in English is not truly accessible. MIRA was built to speak in the language its users are most comfortable in, making it genuinely useful across India's diverse population.

SMARTON is also available as smart glasses — purpose-built wearable hardware that allows users to interact with their environment completely hands-free. This hardware integration makes the experience far more natural than holding up a phone.

    The Team Behind the Vision

SMARTON is the flagship product of Sunbots Innovations LLP, co-created by Deep Parmar (CTO, deepap.dev) and Suket Amin (suketamin.com), a social impact innovator. The project represents years of work at the intersection of computer vision, generative AI, and accessibility-first design.

Deep Parmar, an AI engineer based in Ahmedabad with over 7 years of experience in ML and computer vision, describes the motivation simply: technology should work for everyone, especially those who need it most.

    Why AI Accessibility Matters Now

The assistive technology market in India is dramatically under-served. Most products designed for visual impairment were built for Western markets, are expensive, and do not support Indian languages or context. SMARTON is a homegrown solution that understands the Indian user intimately.

More broadly, the emergence of real-time computer vision and large language models has made it possible to build assistive tools that were simply impossible five years ago. The convergence of affordable edge computing, powerful AI APIs, and connected hardware means a visually impaired person in Ahmedabad can now have a capable, intelligent companion in their pocket — or on their face.

    What's Next

The SMARTON team continues to expand MIRA's capabilities, with new features being added based on direct feedback from users. If you want to learn more, explore getsmartonai.com or connect with the Sunbots team at hello@sunbots.in.

Sometimes the most important thing technology can do is let someone navigate their day with dignity and independence. That is what SMARTON is built for.
